What is the Service?

A community based modification and maintenance service that assists older people, people with disabilities, and their carers to continue living safely in their own homes for as long as possible.

Who can receive this service?

Frail older people, people with disabilities and their carers who live in their own homes in the LGAs of Lane Cove, Mosman, North Sydney and Willoughby.

When is it available?

Monday to Friday
Requests for service can be made between 8.30am -3.00pm.
Phone: 9428 3996   Fax: 9420 3072

How does it operate?

The work is completed by a highly professional team of tradespeople that incorporates carpenters, electricians, plumbers and tilers - with many years experience in the building trade.

The work may include individual items or combinations of the following:
  • Grab rails
  • Hand rails
  • Outside rails
  • Hand held showers
  • Sliding shower rails
  • Ramps/wedges
  • Bed/chair & settee risers
  • Other modifications to assist clients to continue living safely in their own home, including removal of shower hobs, and bathroom modifications.
  • Maintenance work including light electrical, light plumbing, carpentry, smoke detector installation and light bulb replacement.
  • Lawnmowing, painting, tree lopping, roof tiling and guttering are not included in this service.
  • Gardening (Please refer to our hours; North Shore Easy Care Gardening Service).

Do I have to pay to receive this service?

Yes, but our rates are lower than normal market rates, being a subsidised service. This is a non-profit organisation and as such does not compete in the marketplace.
In some instances estimates may be given with a clarifying statement where it is not possible to determine the condition of concealed or hidden areas that may require modification.
We are also able to negotiate progressive payments if a client is unable to pay the full amount immediately upon completion.
An inability to make full payment on completion should not be an inhibiting factor where a service is deemed necessary for the health and well being of a client.

How can I request this service?

Referrals for modifications must come from Occupational Therapy (OT) departments of public and private hospitals; Consultant Occupational Therapists; and other community based health services.

A typical modification referral contains:
  • client and (if available) carer details
  • OT contact information
  • OT drawing or detail showing exact location and fixing points for mobility and support aids as specified
  • any other advice concerning the client that may be of assistance to the team.
Doctors, friends, relatives, carers, self-referrals or other individuals may make referrals for maintenance.
