Shopping Service

What is the Service?

The Shopping Service provides a home delivery service in conjunction with Coles Supermarket, Lane Cove.

Who can receive this service?

The Shopping Service is available to frail older people, people with disabilities and their carers who live in the Lane Cove local government area, who are housebound and unable to access the supermarket. A medical certificate is required from your doctor stating that you require this service due to your frailty or disability (may be temporary or longterm).

When is it available?

The Shopping service is offered on a weekly basis.

How does it operate?

Clients telephone their shopping orders to the office on Friday mornings between 9 am and 12 midday. A volunteer takes these orders, collates them and these are then given to Coles Supermarket.

The following Tuesday, Coles Supermarket packs the order and it is delivered to the clients home on Tuesday afternoons. Any item of grocery, whether cold or fresh, such as meat and vegetables, can be delivered. No alcohol or cigarettes will be included in the order. Clients must be at home on Tuesday afternoons to receive and pay for their groceries.

Do I have to pay to receive this service?

Clients must pay the full cost of their shopping order, plus the standard delivery fee directly to Coles Supermarket on receipt of their order on Tuesday afternoon.

How can I request this service?

Although referrals for the Shopping Service are accepted from the client, family or friends, doctors or medical services, they must be accompanied by a medical certificate from your doctor.

Once a referral is received, a Community Worker will visit the client and explain the service in full and answer any further questions. Referrals and orders (Fridays only) can be phoned to Lane Cove Community Aid Service on 9427 6425.
