Bus Outings for Older Men
What is the service?
It is an informal, social group for older men who are independently mobile and enjoy a morning outing with transport provided. Venues include nearby places of interest, cafés for morning tea and, where possible, a short stroll in the fresh air.The Service is run in partnership with Lane Cove Council and Lower North Shore Community Transport.
Who is eligible for this Service?
The Service is available to any
- Older men
- Younger men with disabilities
- Male carers.
To be eligible, you must
- Live in, or close to, the Lane Cove local government area
- Be independently mobile (including use of a walking stick)
Is there a cost?
The Clients pay for their own morning tea when visiting a cafe. (When there is no nearby cafe, we send morning tea on the bus. There is no fee charged for this).Occasionally we visit a venue which charges a small entry fee per person; on these occasions the Clients pay for their own entry.
On average the total cost ranges between $3.50 (for a cup of tea/coffee only) to around $10 (for a cuppa with biscuit/cake, entry).
Currently there is no transport fee. However, this is due for a review, after which there may be a small fee.
How often is it available?
The group runs on the 1st and 3rd Friday mornings of each month.
Once registered, the Client may either attend regularly or when their other commitments allow. However, bookings are advised as spaces on the bus are limited.
How to register/refer for this Service?
To register, simply phone us on 9427 6425. Ask for the Social Support Coordinator, who will explain the Service in full and answer any questions.
Anyone can refer, either themselves or (on behalf of) someone else, to register for this Service.How does it operate?
Dates: 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month.
Time: 09.45am - 12.45pm.
Meeting Point: Bus departs from, and returns to, Lane Cove Community Aid Service.
Parking: On-street parking in nearby streets, or in Woolworths car park with a disabled parking permit.
